的 Animal Welfare Act (那边)

的 那边, along with its implementing regulations 9病死率, mandates minimal standards of lab animal care. 的se standards apply to nearly all academic and research institutions and are enforced by 的 U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) 通过随机安排的, unannounced inspections to ensure that all regulated facilities comply with 的 law. If an inspection reveals deficiencies in meeting 的 那边 standards and regulations, inspector instructs 的 facility to correct 的 problems within a given time frame. If deficiencies are uncorrected at 的 follow-up inspection, legal action can be taken. Such action could include fines and/or license suspensions or revocations.

的 animal care and use program at ODU is a 公共卫生 服务 (PHS) assured program and is accredited by 的 Association for Assessment and 认证 of Laboratory Animal Care. ODU implements humane care and management practices for animals in compliance with USDA regulations promulgated under 的 Animal Welfare Act, 公共卫生 服务 Policy on Humane Care and 使用 of Laboratory 动物, Guide for 的 Care and 使用 of Laboratory 动物，和 Guide for 的 Care and 使用 of Agricultural 动物 in RESEARCH and 教学. ODU has an established Institutional Animal Care and 使用 Committee (IACUC) in accordance with USDA regulations, and abides by 的 care and management practices approved by 的 IACUC. 的 animal research program at ODU ensures 的 ethical and humane use of animals involved in teaching and research activities by providing quality animal care in a research environment that promotes good science.

OLAW

的 Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) is responsible for administering and coordinating 的 公共卫生 服务 (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and 使用 of 动物 (PHS Policy). 的 健康 RESEARCH Extension Act of 1985 (Public Law 99-158) is 的 mandate for 的 PHS Policy.

IACUC会议日期

Meetings of 的 IACUC are scheduled monthly. 的 deadline for protocol submission is 的 second Monday of every month. 所有提交, 包括新的协议, 修正案, 每年续签, 以及关闭报告, must be submitted electronically via IRBNet. Protocols submitted before 的 deadline will be guaranteed a spot on 的 upcoming meeting agenda and will have a pre-review conducted by a small subcommittee made up of IACUC members and support staff. Protocols submitted after 的 deadline will not be guaranteed a spot on 的 next meeting agenda.

Meeting dates may be rescheduled due to holidays or if 的 Chair or Attending Veterinarian is unable to attend. Updated meeting times will be posted to this website within one week of 的 meeting.

All meetings take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. 在他们指定的日期.
